2:19 p.m. - 2008-08-17 Currently Watching MURPHY'S LAW....ANYTHING THAT CAN GO WRONG....WILL.... AND it did. Remember my sad reporting of the broken storm door glass insert last week? Well.....my poor RH (retired husband) and I went to the store and picked out a new door. We were certain that trying to just replace the safety glass in the old storm insert would be costly and time-consuming. So...we went to a store and bought a new door. It's really a nice door, heavy, attractive and best of all; it has a roll up screen for the top 2/3rd of the door....or you have two glass sections when you want it to be closed. Great, right? Yes, it is....... but costly too! Yes, it was! So, RH got up Friday bright and early and started to replace the door. Naturally, it took all day....see above regarding Murphy's Law. He had to change some of the pieces twice because they were on the wrong side of the door. His wonderful drill had drill bits that were worn, the screwdriver bits were not much better and it was hot...and humid....and muggy....and did I mention RH was trying to go this himself with no help. I was put to work a couple of times just to help hold the door in place or to be sure the door didn't catch a gust of wind and shatter......(no pun intended!). Anyway, he worked very hard and finally got it done. He even had to rebuilt the framing around the door because it wasn't properly lined up......well, of course...that would make it too easy. We could have paid $114 plus to have the door installed but as RH said; it probably would have taken them longer than their minimum labor time to do it anyway. ***** In other news, we purchased 2 trumpeting honeysuckle vines in yellow and red and planted them in the front yard to encourage hummingbirds to come visit next year. And last night we saw two Cooper Hawks on the dusk to dawn light on the tree lawn in front of our house. and today we saw a hummingbird 3 times within a few minutes....or maybe it was 3 different hummingbirds!!!! Yesterday we drove to Valparaiso, In. and spent some time with a couple of friends that we have known for over 47 years. We used to spend a lot of time together with our children.....they had 6 and we had 1. We haven't seen them for almost 5 years. It was wonderful to catch up on what has been going on in their lives and in ours. We made a vow not to let so much time go by again.
