All my excuses.....

I'm Sorry I'm Leaving

Did anyone notice I hadn't posted in a few days? Did anyone care....really? LOL.

So, anyway, let's see, what can I use as an excuse? What would make a good reason for not writing for several days? Why would anyone care anyway?

Ok,....well. Last Saturday, an old and dear friend drove up from Florida with her sister to help open up her sister's lake cottage in Michigan. The friend (C) just lost her husband a month ago. We wanted very much to see her and talk. C. and her husband had been friends for over 40 years. Her husband was a policeman with my husband. They had their first child 29 days before we had ours. We both had sons. They were our son's godparents. C. and I spent time together during the last few weeks of our pregnancies because our husbands were rookies and had to work at some police functions. C and I also spent time together when our sons were less than a year old.

So, anyway, we took some hamburgers and hotdogs, some buns, and blueberry muffins up to the cottage and had a small cookout. We stayed several hours and visited and caught up on old times and newer times and what our sons were doing now as adults. We really enjoyed the visit and felt like it had just been a few weeks since we last spent time together. In reality; it has been years!

C's husband had been diagnosed with brain cancer in January. She took Family Medical Leave on March 17th and he passed away just a few weeks ago in May. She is a 4th grade school teacher and will be returning to work when school begins again. The good thing is her sister lives close by in Florida as do her son and daughter and 2 grandchildren. RH (retired husband) and I feel comforted that C. is going to be just fine. She has always had a real joy for life and is upbeat. She is adventurous and energetic. Once she gets rested up this summer, we know her life will be full of meaning and joy again.

On Sunday, RH worked in the yard again. You know, that grass keeps on growing all the time!

Did I mention he got the riding lawnmower last week. When he was using it the first time, I looked out and he looked like a kid on a go-cart. He was zipping around the yard so fast - I was waiting for the mower to tip.

Monday, I went for a blood test because I have a doctor appointment the following Monday. RH was going to do some more cleaning out of the garage and his truck but we decided to be spontaneous and went to play the penny slots. After all, it had been a least 6 days since we last lost our money! Of course, we didn't win big but we had fun. RH is beginning to see the advantages of being retired!.

Tuesday, I had lunch with our son. It was nice to just talk about what is going on in his life and his viewpoint on what his and DIL's goals are for the next few years. RH was having lunch with his friend in town. We got a phone call from another couple who are in town for a school reunion. It was their 2nd wedding anniversary and they wanted to take us out to dinner. They came over in the afternoon and we talked and caught up on all the news. We met again later at a restaurant in Michigan and had a very nice dinner.

Today RH and I are doing some work around the house. We are flying out tomorrow to Wendover, Nv. on a package trip to some casinos. We decided to take a chance on the offer we saw in the newspaper and booked the direct flight and the hotel stay. We are not going with any expectations of winning. We are hoping for a few days of fun.

When we return on Sunday night, we will be getting ready for another few days of work around the house. The following Friday (July 4th), we are driving to Kankakee, Il. to meet my cousin and her husband. We will spend the afternoon together, have a steak dinner out, visit in our motel rooms in the evening, have breakfast the next morning and then drive back home. Then I will have the rest of Saturday and Sunday to get the laundry caught up.

Because on Monday, July 7th, I will be flying to Texas for 2 weeks to visit with my two sisters.

So that is why I haven't been writing a blog..... and that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
