Simple Abundance.....TAKING THE CURE - THE BATH

"Every woman should be aware that there is a significant difference in bathing and "taking a bath". Bathing is cleansing....you could use a shower for that! "Taking a bath" is a kind of mystic ceremony."

Vanilla bubble bath recipe
Foaming vanilla bath indulges your body and your skin. It is relaxing and soothing. It is made with vanilla extract that can be bought in any of the health food stores. It has to be made with 35% alcohol to qualify as an extract.

Foaming Vanilla Bath

1 cup oil (any vegetable oil)
1/2 c. liquid soap
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup honey (optional)

Blend the ingredients together. Shake well before using. Use 1/4 cup per bath.

Taking a bath is rejuvenating. "A century ago water cures were all the rage to combat the new American nervousness as our great-great-grandparents adjusted to relentless intrusion of modern living."

Victorians flocked to drink mineral waters and take medicinal dunks to cure the anxiety attacks, insomnia, depression and headaches that all those modern conveniences seemed to bring into their lives.

Today we can take the cure or take our bath in the privacy of our own homes. It will calm your mind, renew your spirit, help you drift off into a wonderful sleep which will help you greet the next day with renewed enthusiasm....or at the very least, you will be clean and smell better.

The Simple Abundance philosophy is this....WHEN IN DOUBT, TAKE A BATH!

The next time you are asked what you would like for a gift, ask for bath products.....bubble bath, lotion, bath salts, bath oil, bath powder, candles, perfumes, special accessories like a bath pillow, a bath sheet or a soft robe and slippers. You earned it.

Another essay is AROMATHERAPY; THE RESTORATIVE COMFORT OF FRAGRANCE.

The simple pleasure and power of a scent that is appealing to you will enhance your mind, body and spirit.

Did you know that the art of blending essential oils or extracts has been an ancient art. "It was used in many old civilizations including ancient Egypt and Rome for thousands of years. Why? Because it works!"

"For some people, LAVENDER oil massaged on your temples will relieve a headache. BASIL will stimulate the brain, ROSEMARY activates the memory, PEPPERMINT will provide mental clarity and sharpness and SAGE is great for fatigue and strain."

"Here's how it all works. Our sense of smell is our primordial link to our brain. When we inhale the scent, neurotransmitters in our brain trigger biochemical secretions that affect our moods, feelings and emotions. When the scent permeates our skin through the bath or massage, the oil penetrates the epidermis (skin) stimulates our sophisticated lymph duct system and enters the bloodstream which eventually delivers the well-being to our mind."

A body or facial massage will make you feel like a new woman. You can drop some oil into water and warm it in a potpourri pot warmed by a candle. You can put some oil into your warm bath, sprinkle oil on a hankerchief and sniff it as needed using deep breaths. You can burn incense or light a scented candle as you read and relax.

In my last blog, I mentioned I love pictures of chairs. I also realize I am drawn to pictures of front doors and porches. I guess it must be a symbol of home...where I feel the most like myself. I am safe, secure, happy in my surroundings and I feel welcome.

Here's some information I found about red doors.

The meaning of the Red Door?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've always heard it was supposed to be welcoming.

First it is a big feng shui thing, although I don't know much about feng shui.

In early America a red door was a sign of "welcome." When people had to travel by horse and buggy they had to stop often. If they came upon a house with a red door that usually meant they would be able to spend the night. There is even rumor that a red front door was used in the under ground railroad as a sign for the slaves traveling north that that house was a safe house.

The Feng Shui aspect of painting your door Red is that in Feng Shui, the front door is considered the "Mouth of Chi" where all good energy enters a space. Red is considered to be the most auspicious color in Feng Shui. So it's done to attract luck and good energy. I'm sure people do it for other reasons but that's why many people use it.

There is a saying "The kingdom of joy is protected from all evil by a red door"

In old Catholicism the doors of a church was painted red to represent the blood of Christ and other Martyrs and once you passed thru the doors the ground (church floor) was holy ground.

I read that in Scotland when you paid off your mortgage you pained your door red.

and do I need to say that I have a red front door at my house ....... !
