FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Continuing on our journey through Simple Abundance guidelines, the subject of meditation comes up again.

Meditation does not have to be the sitting up straight with your legs and arms in an awkward position, chanting some strange words. Instead, meditation is intentional concentration on one thing. "....when you have become so absorbed.....that your breathing slows, it leads to deeper wisdom...the natural healing system of the body is engaged, we feel psychologically satisfied."

There are many types of meditation routines and you may find more than one that works for you depending on the reason for your meditation. Whether it is listening to music, closing your eyes, writing in a journal, sitting in front of a fire or watching the flicker of a scented candle, taking a walk, just softly breathing in and out, or eating a perfect piece of chocolate and concentrating on each delicious morsel as it melts in your mouth...it doesn't matter. As long as you retreat to a quiet place in yourself and relax your body. Get in touch with the Silence within. Try to carve out 20 minutes every day for this meditation exercise. Just try.

Simple Abundance states that we need to set aside a Perfect Sabbath.

"Some keep the Sabbath by going to church, I keep it, staying at Home." Emily Dickinson.

Sabbath is a day for relaxing, rejoicing, remembering, rejuvenation, rituals, recreation, rest, renewal, revelation, remembering to be grateful and to say Thank You. You can honor your Sabbath in a place of worship, in an art museum, a movie theater, doing a crossword puzzle, cooking, drinking a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. "What matters is that you do something special that speaks to your soul and that you revel in it." Your choice should uplift you and provide enough inspiration to carry you during the next week. Some choose to sleep in, stay in their pjs all day and just spend time with their families. Whatever it is that makes you feel whole again is probably the right thing for you to do.

Here's a link to a beautiful piece that should inspire you and make you think about how special you really are.
