Filling your spirit...
Feb. 10, 2008

I'M JUST CATCHING UP WITH YESTERDAY AND BY TOMORROW, I SHOULD BE READY FOR TODAY!

So, I am reading all the Simple Abundance essays I missed for the past two weeks and I found a few that I think should be passed on...

This one is a lesson I really need to apply to my own life. ..."many of us secretly believe that we have to wait...before we start to get our act together." "TOMORROW, we will begin to discover our authentic pleasures,...we'll treat ourselves better...and take time to enjoy."

"Life NEVER calms down...enough for us to wait until tomorrow to start living the life we deserve"

There is always something...illness, a phone call, something breaks down, the weather, a disappointment, a set-back.

'LET'S JUST ACKNOWLEDGE THAT AS FAR AS REAL LIFE IS CONCERNED, WE ARE ONLY ONE STEP AWAY FROM DEALING WITH DISFUNCTION!"

The solution is to stop waiting for life to become perfect and start working with what we have now. "...Accept, bless, give Thanks and get going." Call your friend for lunch, read a book, take a bubble bath, go outside and walk, create something new, cook, write ...just find something that brings you some joy and lifts your spirits.

The next lesson is "there is no companion so companionable than Solitude." Find an hour every day for you. Do something for yourself. If you can't take an entire hour at one time...take it in 15 minute periods. but take it!

"You need enough breathing space to allow your heart to ponder what is precious." You may not think the hour has dramatically impacted your day. You may not have any insights, inspiration, guidance... but often something good will come. "Whether or not revelations have been part of the time, each day offers its own gift."

Another suggestion is keeping a journal...make it personal and handwritten...just for your eyes. It is a place for you to sort out all the thoughts that are running through your head. It allows you to get all those ideas and worries and thoughts and "should haves" down on paper and clears your head. Some people like to list those thoughts first thing in the morning so they can go on with their day with space for what comes along. Others like to end their day before sleeping by calming a restless spirit. "Call this your "daily dialog" and try it for 21 days. Don't be surprised or ashamed if, at first, you do a lot of complaining. That's really a good sign. You will get tired of writing the same complaints over and over and start doing something to change it. Also, don't use a beautiful fancy journal....don't worry about how it looks. It's just for you....get some notebook paper and scribble away.

Another suggestion is ....an illustrated discovery journal.

"The key to loving how you live is knowing what it is that you truly love."

One means of discovering what you prefer is to gather pictures that speak to our souls. What calls out to you? A beautiful piece of material, a sunset, flowers, children, animals, music? "Meditating over one visual image can jump-start your creativity and lead to revealing insights."

"Did you think you were all about American Country decor but rose-covered chintz is what you keep collecting on paper?" Do you think you only like organization but find a jumble of colored yarn sings to your soul? Do you love to cut out recipes but don't think you are a good cook?

You could get some old magazines, some glue or rubber cement and a spiral bound notebook and put it in a basket. When you are in a relaxed mood, start tearing out pictures and put them in....not in order..or making a conscious effort to organize them appropriately...You can add quotes, sketches, cards, words...whatever speaks to you. You may find out that your real interests lie in a different direction than you ever dreamed.

I think that is enough for you to absorb for now. There are so many great suggestions on finding out what really makes your soul sing to you. Some of you may already have ways of finding your inner light. But some of us need a gentle reminder from time to time, don't we?

"Joy resides in the simple pleasures Life gives...the sunrise and sunset, the smile of a loved one, the wonder and excitement of being alone. See the miracle of each new day and let the beauty of every moment fill your heart with joy"

and so I shall...
