important messages
Thursday, June 15, 2006 Currently Listening Paint the Sky with Stars: The Best of Enya By Enya see related I have a couple of important messages for you and I want to post them first on this blog entry. First about mammograms... Subject: Mastectomy Bill in Congress - NOT a joke If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery. It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important...please take the time and do it really quick! Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. If you are receiving this it's because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go and vote on this issue and send it on to others you know who will do the same. There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the "drive-through mastectomy" where women are forced to go home hours after surgery against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached. Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on. PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number. http://www.lifetimetv.com/health/breast_mastectomy_pledge.html This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and family THANKS, @@@ Next is about mold in our food and how dangerous it is... Check the Dates >DEAR ABBY : > I recently made a batch of pancakes for my healthy 14-year-old son, using a >mix that was in our pantry. He said that they tasted "funny," but ate them >anyway. About 10 minutes later, he began having difficulty breathing and >his lips began turning purple. I gave him his allergy pill, had him sit on the sofa and told him to relax. He was wheezing while inhaling and exhaling. >My husband, a volunteer firefighter and EMT, heated up some water, and we >had my son lean over the water so the steam could clear his chest and >sinuses. Soon, his breathing became more regular and his lips returned to a >more normal color. > >We checked the date on the box of pancake mix and, to my dismay, found it >was very outdated. As a reference librarian at an academic institution, I >have the ability to search through many research databases. I did just that, and found an article the next day that mentioned a 19-year-old male DYING after eating pancakes made with outdated mix. Apparently, the mold that forms in old pancake mix can be toxic! > When we told our friends about my son's close call, we were surprised at the number of people who mentioned that they should check their own pancake mix since they don't use it often, or they had purchased it some time ago. > With so many people shopping at warehouse-type stores and buying large sizes of pancake mix, I hope your readers will take the time to check the expiration date on their boxes. Also, beware of outdated cake, brownie and cookie mixes. PASS IT ON!!!! @@@@@@ next ....this is a cute animated political statement. http://www.newsday.com/news/opinion/ny-waltflash5,0,5531570.flash This is a great message too. ----- Subject: Butterflies & Flowers If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who won't survive the week. If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 20 million people around the world If you attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than almost three billion people in the world. If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy. If your parents are still married and alive, you are very rare, specially in the United States. If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not. If you can hold someone's hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder, you are blessed because you can offer God's healing touch. If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read anything at all. You are so blessed in ways you may never even know. This blessing will only keep working if it is continuously passed around. If you are a recipient of a blessing, keep the blessing working by being the source of blessing to other people. This made my day hope it makes Yours. Mom always told me that we could never measure our wealth by money but by our friends. She would surely be glad to meet you and know how rich I turned out to be! God sprinkles tiny but wonderful seeds of blessings on earth each day...and I just caught one that's so nice and true...It's you! I may have forgotten to say that I care. I may have failed to open up and share, but though no words have been spoken, my promise of friendship won't be broken. Time and distance are important between friends. When a friend is in your heart, they remain there forever. I may be busy, but I assure you, you are always in my heart!
Friends are like the walls of a house. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes you lean on them. But sometimes, it's enough to know they're just standing by. If all my friends were to jump off a bridge, I wouldn't jump with them; I'd be at the bottom to catch them. One tree can start a forest, one smile can start a friendship. One touch can show you care, one friend can make life worth living. A smile makes us look younger while prayers make us feel stronger and friends... They make us enjoy life. I HOPE YOU PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS NEW & OLD, YOUNG AND OLD AND ANY ONE YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE FEEL GOOD!!! @@@@ A Sweet Dog Story: Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why." Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long." Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply, Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. @@@@ Dear God, I'm writing to say I'm sorry For being angry yesterday When you seemed to ignore my prayer and things didn't go my way > First, my car broke down I was very late for work But I missed that awful accident Was that your handiwork? > I found a house I loved But others got there first I was angry, then relieved When I heard the pipes had burst! > Yesterday, I found the perfect dress But the color was too pale Today, I found the dress in red Would you believe, it was on sale! > I know you're watching over me And I'm feeling truly blessed For no matter what I pray for You always know what's best! > I have this circle of journal and E-mail friends, Who mean the world to me; Some days I "send" and "send," At other times, I let them be. > > I am so blessed to have these friends, With whom I've grown so close; So this little poem I dedicate to them, Because to me they are the "Most"! > When I see each name download, And view the message they've sent; I know they've thought of me that day, And "well wishes" were their intent. > So to you, my friends, I would like to say Thank you for being a part; Of all my daily contacts, This comes right from my heart. > God bless you all is my prayer today, I'm honored to call you "friend"; I pray the Lord will keep you safe Until we write again Good evening.....
