We are still in Texas, we visited THE ALAMO today. It was quite striking that some of the original buildings are still intact. The visitors are very respectful. Men must remove their hats and no photos can be taken inside. The Alamo is considered to be a shrine and is treated very reverently. the building where the women and childen were during the battle is still intact. There were about 18-20 who survived, mostly young children. The battle lasted 13 days in 1836. When you see some of the rifles and knives they had to fight with; it is truly amazing that they were able to hold the Mexicans back for so many days. Once the Mexican Army was able to scale the walls; it was nearly over with about 200 volunteers fighting inside against the Mexican Army.

It was very hot again today. We walked on the Riverwalk in San Antonio which is a lovely area with lots of restaurants and shops all along the river downtown. We were unable to take the boat because a huge old pipe was ready to burst and the City was rushing to get it replaced. If it had burst, it would have flooded the Riverwalk. It would have ruined an immense number of businesses. /TOMORROW, we are going to visit Bracketville which is where several Western movies were filmed. We had to drive to Del Rio to find a motel but we are settled in now for an evening of TV and will enjoy resting until tomorrow. There is a heavy storm approaching but we are hoping it will pass us.

Unfortunately, we didn't bring our passports or we could have gone into Mexico. We are doing fine and finding that traveling, while still fun, gets old too. Already I am getting tired of packing and unpacking and trying to remember where I put things.
