Things to ponder

Friday, August 19, 2005

I read an ad today that quoted a woman who said she really liked the DOLLAR STORE in her area because "I don't have to dress up like I do at WAL-MART."

That made me think, just how does she dress every day? Have you noticed how many people go to the store in PJ bottoms and T-shirt and flip-flops? How many wear sweat pants with no underwear....it is rather obvious, guys..... How many extremely heavy women wear spaghetti strap T-shirts with no bra.....and that is so obvious it is almost against the law!

Churches now allow people to wear shorts and T-shirts to a service. Some even have the service outdoors so you can just sit in your car....I guess there is no telling what they are (or aren't) wearing there. I know the church wants people to attend and hear the sermon but it does seem disrespectful to dress so casually.

And, funerals....I have seen people in torn jeans, dirty T-shirts. What kind of respect is that for the dearly departed?

Most people who work can dress much more casually than years ago. When I started working, women were expected to wear a dress or skirt and high heels. There were no slacks to be worn to work.

Now we can wear slacks and a casual top as long as we look presentable and businesslike. Some have carried it a bit far, with low cut blouses and very short skirts and sandals with no panty hose. Thankfully we still are not allowed to wear blue jeans at my job. I just don't think it fits the professional business image.

My husband wore a police uniform for 20 years. That made it easy for him to dress for work each day. Now he wears a dress shirt and tie most days...or at least a dress shirt.

Even the schools are finally cracking down on the clothing. No low cut tops, no midriff tops, no low cut jeans. Even no baggy clothes, (I never could figure out how those boys keep their pants up anyhow). Some of the schools are threatening uniforms if the students don't straighten up. And now they can't have backpacks, head bands, braids (for the boys). What is the world coming to?

I hope you all enjoy wearing what you want and that you feel it is comfortable and reasonable in your work life to wear the appropriate garments.

Being off work gives you more of a choice but still, you should look decent and not be ashamed to be seen by your friends and family.

Nope, ....I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?

So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random se! arches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winning and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone because of profiling.

Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Aldreds and other dunder-headed attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel doubly ashamed of themselves - if they have any such sense.

As the writer of the award winning story "Forrest Gump" so aptly put it, "Stupid is as stupid does."

Come on people wake up!!!

Keep this going. Pass it on to everyone in your address book. Our Country and our troops need our support!

And even more*****************

WARNING
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . .

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Many women's groups have been formed based on the theme of the poem. Over the years ladies have dressed up in purple with red hats.

Have a great weekend.
